The BCA is committed to offering its’ members opportunities for career development, skill enhancement and safety training. The BCA utilizes the resources of organizations that are affiliated with the construction industry in order to bring its members the most expert information about our unique industry. The BCA has a dedicated training room that provides all of the necessary equipment for learning in a private, comfortable atmosphere.

EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS

The educational seminars hosted by the BCA are presented in two formats – The Business Builders Breakfast and The Lunchbox Series.

The Business Builders Breakfast is  held from 8am to 9:30am.  The topics for these seminars are usually based on products or services that can help a business run more effectively A light breakfast and coffee are served.

The Lunchbox Series is held over the lunch hour from 11:30am to 1pm.  The topics for these seminars range from the latest industry news or changes (ie prompt payment, construction lien) to lessons that can guide you in running a successful business.  There is time for a question and answer period and lunch is always provided.

Canada Ontario Job Grant
Canada-Ontario Job Grant (the Job Grant) provides an opportunity for employers to invest in their workforce, with help from the government.

The Job Grant will provide direct financial support to individual employers who wish to purchase training for their employees. It will be available to small, medium and large businesses with a plan to deliver short-term training to existing and new employees, and will:

Provide up to $10,000 in government support per person for training costs.
Require employers to contribute one-third of the total costs. There will be additional flexibility for small businesses to provide an in-kind contribution towards their share of the costs.
Require training to be delivered by an eligible, third-party trainer.
If you’re an employer with a particular skills demand, the Canada-Ontario Job Grant might be right for you. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

The BCA has partnered with Build Force Canada to offer a range of courses aimed at supervisors, estimators, project managers etc. Online education gives you the flexibility to learn at your own pace from anywhere, anytime!

BCA Scholarship Award

The Barrie Construction Association is pleased to award a $500.00 scholarship to one student entering a post secondary institution or construction trade apprenticeship.  This scholarship will be presented to a student who graduated or is graduating with a minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent and has demonstrated a combination of academic and trade merit and has a financial need.

The student must be entering a construction apprenticeship program, construction technology, construction engineering (degree) or any other construction related post secondary program.

The selected applicant must provide proof of enrolment in a post secondary program or trades program in order to receive the scholarship funds.  The applicant must be a resident of Ontario and a Canadian citizen or provide proof of landed immigrant status.

The recipient will be chosen just prior to our Annual General Meeting, held each year in February.

Georgian College Gold Seal Program – Part Time Studies

The Gold Seal program is a national certification program for individuals in the construction industry. It signifies you have attained a nationally recognized level of experience and competence. It is a declaration of skill and competence that is recognized by the construction industry across the country and enhances mobility and professional development for individuals in this field.

These courses would be of interest to construction site supervisors and foremen or those aspiring to these positions and other construction industry professionals
