Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver a wide variety of courses in our Civil Engineering Technology Program including, but not limited to: construction materials, construction management, highway, sewer, watermain, and bridge construction.
Evaluate student progress/achievement.
Maintain subject expertise through contact with industry, other educational institutions and/or professional organizations.
Create and maintain a positive learning environment.
Incorporate a variety of learning/teaching strategies to meet student needs.
Participate in portfolio and College activities as required.
Participate in course revision, program renewal activities, and develop alternative delivery strategies as required.
Detailed descriptions of responsibilities are defined in the classification definition of professor in the Academic Collective Agreement.
Qualifications:
Required:
A post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering.
Registered, or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the Province of Ontario.
A minimum of 5 years experience with engineering materials, including but not limited to concrete, asphalt and soils.
Previous teaching experience at a post-secondary level and / or adult training experience.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
Commitment to life-long learning.
Computer literacy.
Additional Asset / Preferred:
A Masters degree.
Heavy construction experience an asset.
Ability to work with diverse student population.
Experience in some or all of the following: curriculum development, alternative delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies.
The ability to teach in more than one subject or program area.
