CME Seeking Buy American Stories

The Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) have asked CCA to gather from its members actual examples of where they have been, or will be, adversely affected by the Buy American provisions in order to build the case against these measures. The information will be kept confidential and used solely in the lobby effort. If you have such examples please provide them to Michael Atkinson, CCA President, at mikea@cca-acc.com

Competition Bureau obtains court order against the Saskatchewan Roofing Contractors Association

The order came after an inquiry by the Competition Bureau in response to allegations that some members of the Saskatchewan Roofing Contractors Association had discussed not submitting bids in response to a request for tenders for a roofing project.  read more

LMI Reports Released for Saskatchewan and Alberta

The Construction Sector Council (CSC) has released an updated Labour Market Information (LMI) report for the Provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta. It states that total construction employment in Saskatchewan in the 33 trades and occupations tracked by the CSC system will reach a record peak in 2014 – 43% above the 2001 level! For Alberta, local labour markets will see a major drop in the short term as trades from other provinces and temporary foreign workers return home. Saskatchewan  Alberta

Dates for Pre-Budget Consultations Out

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance has released its fall public hearing dates for consultations on the next Federal Budget. Those wishing to appear as witnesses before the Committee must give notice by July 31, 2009. Written submissions must be in by August 14, 2009.  read more

The Government of Canada introduces new resource for employers interested in hiring internationally trained workers

A new resource to help guide employers through the hiring process for internationally trained workers was announced June 16th. “Employers are key partners in helping internationally trained workers find jobs in their areas of training, and this resource makes it easier for employers to assess their qualifications,” Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney. read more
